ACTT Program Overview

The Louisiana Tech University Advanced Certifications and Training for Technology (ACTT) program is a collaborative initiative designed to bring together local education/training, business and industry, and social service infrastructures to strengthen Louisiana's economy and advance technology-based employment. The training is provided through a grant from the Louisiana Recovery Authority Innovation Workforce Program (IWP). The program is centered on three inter-related factors:

  • The employment of the workforce affected by hurricanes;
  • The retention of the existing workforce; and,
  • A concerted effort to increase skills development for new jobs in sectors related to recovery efforts and a future growth economy.

Louisiana Tech University has long been a leader in stimulating a technology-driven economy for North Louisiana. With particular strengths in engineering, multidisciplinary research, and advanced facilities to support scientific research, LA Tech is committed to playing a leading role in developing the workforce pipeline to support skilled, high-wage employment in growing economic sectors in our region. We are working with major industries in North Louisiana to foster job growth and workforce development in support of the region's economic recovery and revitalization.
In addition to our industry partners, we have partnered with other Colleges, Universities, High Schools and community programs and associations to promote and host training opportunities. The training is offered to Louisiana residents at no cost. Trainees are responsible for their own transportation and subsistence while attending any course offerings.

Our Mission

It is the Mission of the IWP ACTT Program to provide courses in emerging fields of technology in support of the State's current demand-driven, sector-based training to promote hurricane recovery and long-term economic growth.

Our courses focus on improving the knowledge, skills and/or abilities of Louisiana residents, especially the unemployed or underemployed resident. Technology-related courses will be provided quarterly along with courses designed to improve job readiness or employability. Our instructors and staff are committed to connecting students with employment opportunities and further education and training. It is our goal to make Louisiana a first choice for industries looking for new locations with a highly skilled and trained workforce.

Employment Assistance
Advanced Certification and Training for Technology (ACTT) courses are being offered to Louisiana citizens at no cost through a grant from the Louisiana Office of Community Development's Disaster Recovery. Coordinated by Louisiana Tech University, the classes are offered quarterly in a variety of venues to support recovery and rebuilding of areas impacted by hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike, as well as the long-term recovery of the State's overall economy.
